Water Flows! New Well Inaugurated in Bugiri District

After three months of hard work, the community of Bugiri now has access to clean, safe drinking water for the first time. Learn how this project has already changed hundreds of lives.

It is with immense joy and gratitude that we announce the successful completion and inauguration of our newest water well in the remote Bugiri District of Eastern Uganda. This project, which began three months ago, is a testament to the power of collective generosity.

A Desperate Need Met

Before this well, the residents of Bugiri—a community of nearly 800 people—relied solely on a contaminated open pond for drinking, cooking, and sanitation. The result was a devastating cycle of waterborne diseases, especially among young children. Mothers often walked over three miles daily, carrying heavy jerrycans, a burden that stole time from education and essential childcare.

The Impact is Immediate

The new borehole, drilled to a depth of 65 meters, provides a constant supply of clean, potable water. The change is immediate and profound:

  • **Health:** Cases of diarrhea and cholera have already dropped significantly in the village clinic.
  • **Education:** Children, particularly girls, who were tasked with fetching water, are now consistently attending school.
  • **Time:** Women now spend less than 30 minutes fetching water, freeing them up to engage in income-generating activities.

A Community Effort

We extend our deepest thanks to the donors who funded this $1,500 project. Your support did more than just dig a hole; it built a foundation for a healthier, more hopeful future. The local community played a huge role, providing labor and materials for the protective infrastructure around the well. This commitment ensures sustainability and local ownership.

The Anonymous Project is dedicated to replicating this success in three more districts next year. If you feel moved by the story of Bugiri, consider contributing to our next water well project.

“The water tastes sweet, and our hearts are full. Our children will not be sick anymore.” – Mama Rose, Bugiri Community Leader.
